Patcham LAT
PATCHAM Local Action Team Patcham Local Action Team (PLAT) is a group of volunteers working in partnership with people such as the Patcham residents, Council Officials, members from Sussex Police, local schools, interested groups and a wide range of community representatives within the Patcham neighbourhood, and has been in place and operational since July 2008. The (PLAT) area is bounded by the A27 (Brighton bypass) to the north, Hollingbury to the east and southeast, Withdean to the south and the Brighton Main Line (A23) to the west that passes through the area. The (PLAT) meets on a monthly basis at The Patcham Community Centre which is in Ladies Mile Road. Invitations to our meetings are open to all local residents in the chance to unite in an effort to improve their community, and to tackle the issues that matter to Patcham. It is proposed to have the minutes and an updated newsletter with the all the relevant information concerning the (PLAT) on its own website that will be full of up to date interesting articles, including specific community information. This will be an excellent resource for those interested in our community development. The Local Action Team is chaired by local resident Bernard Copelin and he can be contacted on 01273 554433 or by email at bjcopelin@hotmail.co.uk
The current priorities of the PATCHAM LAT are: 1. The problem of cars travelling at excessive speeds along the narrow stretch of Old London Road 3. Increasing awareness of flooding in the neighbourhood PATCHAM LAT latest news: 1. One of these is the problem of cars travelling at excessive speeds along the narrow stretch of Old London Road. Karla Edwards, owner of the Coach House coffee shop said that many vehicles owners have suffered damage to their cars, including wing-mirrors being knocked off. Mr Copelin said “We have recently raised the issue with the council and are awaiting their response.” 2. The team has also been influential in working to combat recent problems of anti-social behaviour. Mr Copelin added: “I have noticed an increased police presence, particularly on Friday and Saturday evenings which has been very helpful in reducing anti-social behaviour, especially around the clock-tower.” 3. There is an increasing awareness of how flooding of some roads in Patcham is hindering pedestrians and hampering the flow of traffic. It is hoped that the Patcham Local Action Team will persuade the Local Council to clear the drains from the offending obstacles and debris.
