Brighton Old Town LAT
The Brighton Old Town Local Action Team has previously been known as the Regency (Old Town) LAT, and changed its name recently to avoid confusion around its area of interest and with other Regency based representative groups. Its area has been defined as the all roads and areas bounded by North Street, West Street, Kings Road and Old Steine
Meetings are attended by ward councillors, Sussex Police, local residents and traders and a range of council officers. Recent initiatives have been introduced to combat things like graffiti, anti-social behaviour and licensing issues. There have been discussions about gating orders, street layouts, such as the new layout of North Street and many more issues affecting those within the area.
The LAT meets every two months at St Pauls Church, West Street, Brighton. If you are an approved member and have any issues that you would like discussed and addressed at the meeting or wish to attend the meetings or be included in the emails concerning the ongoing work of the Local Action Team, please email us at botlat@hotmail.com. The LAT is chaired by Steve Larkinson, and he may be emailed at stevelarkinson@hotmail.com
In October 2008, the Brighton Old Town LAT requested that the council should investigate the potential of a Gating Order to restrict access to Ship Street Gardens to reduce the impact of crime and antisocial behaviour along the Gardens. Following local consultation and crime analysis a proposed intervention has been developed for the night time Gating of the Gardens and this has now been developed as a Draft Gating Order and is subject to a period of statutory consultation which runds from September 21st to October 18th 2009. The notice, draft Order and background report report 'Ship Street Gardens - Stage 2 Consultation' can be downloaded below.
