FREE Conference - Lunch included:

We invite people with learning disabilities and professionals working in this area to join the conference "It's not on!"- Stop Hate Crime towards people with Learning Disabilities at Hove Town Hall on Tuesday, 26th November 2013, 10am-3pm.

The campaign and conference, which is run collaboratively by learning disability and non-learning disability organisations in Brighton & Hove, attempts to bring as many organisations and individuals with learning disabilities as possible together to raise awareness of one issue that can have a devastating effect on people with learning disabilities living in our city.

What is Learning Disability Hate Crime?

Learning Disability Hate Crime is when a person is picked on because of their disability.
Hate crime can be frightening.
It can make you scared to do things.

A lot of the time people are not reporting when a Learning Disability Hate Crime happens.
It is important to report Learning Disability Hate Crime so the police know it has happened.
People need to know that they can do something about it.
Join the conference to learn more about what you can do to stop hate crime towards people with learning disabilities.

To book your place click here or phone Anke on 01323 727872.  Our mailing address is: anke.speakup@3va.org.uk
The event is free of charge, but booking is necessary!

The conference will include a variety of speakers with expertise in Learning Disability Hate Crime and Community Safety. We will also show some fantastic films, that will inform you about what Learning Disability looks like and how you can report and stop it.

We are happy to announce that Jason Carlisle, Campaign Manager at Royal Mencap, will be speaking at the conference to inform about the national context of Learning Disability Hate Crime. We have also invited Katy Bourne, Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner as well as Neil Honnor, Chief Superintendent of the Sussex Police to join us at the conference.

Lunch will be provided!

Workshops

We invite you to take part in a choice of workshops that will be held on the day. You are welcome to discuss topics such as Hate Crime and Mate Crime, what it is and how to report it.
Also, don't miss out the chance of making a song about Learning Disability Hate Crime with the band members from "Heavy Load"!

Information stalls

Throughout the day several Learning Disability support organisations will display and inform about their services and impact in the field of supporting people with learning disability, stopping and reporting Learning Disability Hate Crime. You are invited to browse and speak to these organisations, learn more about their services, how they support people in Brighton & Hove and new technologies that make Hate Crime reporting a lot easier.
