Restorative Practice

Our Restorative City

Brighton & Hove is committed to becoming a city where residents are offered, and have access to, opportunities to address crime and conflict through safe, secure and effective restorative practice. This will place the victim at the centre of decision making and will enable them to be clear what would help to make amends for wrong doing and harm.

Restorative practice bring those harmed by crime or conflict, and those responsible for the harm, into communication, enabling everyone affected by a particular incident to play a part in repairing the harm and finding a positive way forward. This practice has been used in the criminal justice system and in the community and improves satisfaction rates, reduce repeated harmful behaviour and save money and resources.

There is already extensive good practice in the city and we are working across the Community Safety Partnership to increase the use of restorative practice through the Safe in the City Champions network.
